Documentary and Screendance Works by Malia Bruker

Thursday, October 23, 2025

4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

IU Libraries Moving Image Archive
Malia Bruker

Malia Bruker will present a selection of her short films spanning the wide range of cinematic approaches she utilizes in her work. The program includes a comedic doc/fiction hybrid about Malia’s relationship with her bank, a dance film about the lives of children in Nazi Germany, and an experimental portrait of a self-proclaimed “feminist nihilist” internet artist. Malia’s films are united by her cinematography and editing, as well as her perspectives on the power of community.

Prior to the screening at 4:30, two of Malia’s 360º dance films will be available for viewing at 4:00 p.m. on VR headsets. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A. Note: Content includes graphic nudity.

Malia Bruker is a filmmaker, media artist, and Director of the BFA in Cinematic Arts at IU. She joined the Media School in August 2025 after more than a decade on faculty at Florida State University.
