Film Screening: A Life Without Words (Una Vida sin Palabras)

In rural Nicaragua, Dulce Maria and her brother Francisco are deaf adults without any language–spoken, written, or signed–until Tomasa, a deaf sign-language teacher, arrives determined to teach them their first words. A Life Without Words (2011) was directed and shot by Adam Isenberg, who will be present for the screening.

There will be a reception in the IU Libraries Moving Image Archive 6:00-7:00 pm prior to the screening at 7:00-9:00 pm. ASL interpretation will be provided. there will be a Q&A with director Adam Isenberg, Tessa Bent (Speech & Hearing Sciences), Rob Loveless (Speech & Hearing Sciences American Sign Language Program), and Jonathan Risner (Spanish & Portuguese).

This event is free and open to the public. Open captions and ASL interpretation will be provided.
